1. Change your password.

Using your browser, log in to your email CPanel at http://youremaildomain.com/webmail (eg. http://securesurfing.net/webmail)

Log in with the username and password you were provided.

Select the option to change password and change it.

2. Set up your email client.

While you are in your CPanel to change passwords, you will also see the option to “Configure Email Client.”  This provides all the information necessary to add your account to your email client.

Thunderbird is not shown as one of the choices but the information is the same.

Both your inbound and outbound mail servers will be named mail.yourdomain.com, for example, mail.securesurfing.net

Caution: For some reason the Tunderbird setup wizard always chooses IMAP as the default email account type wherever IMAP is offered. Our services all include IMAP capability but IMAP is not the best choice for most users because it does not store the users email on the users own system but keeps it on the remote server.

Edit the Thunderbird settings rather than accepting the defaults, change the inbound mail server to POP and set the port to 995 and the protocol to TLS/SSL  or SSL.

The SMTP port for your outbound server should be 587 and the protocol TLS/SSL.

You are not required to use these secure ports but could choose port 110 for inbound POP and 25 for outbound SMTP. However if you do so, your email will travel in the clear between your machine and the server. As well, many ISPs are blocking port 25 in a rather weak attempt to prevent users from creating spam sources.
